WEST LIMESTONE BEAT VARSITY RED DEVILS

After a gritty win over the Ardmore Tigers on Monday, the Elkmont Red Devils traveled to West Limestone.  Daniel Logan took the mound for the starting pitch.  At the beginning of the bottom of the second inning, Elkmont was behind 4 - 0.  The Red Devils came out hot, gathering 6 singles and 4 RBIs to tie the score 4 - 4.

The Wildcats answered in the third with another three runs.  Jacob Blenkinsopp came in to finish the last two outs of the innings.  He finished the rest of the game.  Elkmont had a rally going in the fifth inning, putting 3 runners on with singles with no outs but weren't able to score more than one run.  Elkmont errors combined with cold bats added up to a Wildcat win, 10 - 5.

SENIOR RED DEVILS BEAT ARDMORE FOR LAST TIME

With a win in football and several in basketball, the Seniors had one last try to add baseball to their list of sports in which they have beat Ardmore in their last year.  The Red Devils hosted the Ardmore Tigers, April 9.

The Tigers came out of the box swinging, collected 5 hits including a home run and quickly took a 4 - 0 lead in the first inning.  Ben Ferguson stayed focused on the mound, ignoring the score as he continued to throw strikes for five more innings.  The Red Devils defense regrouped and only allowed three runs for  the rest of the game.   Two of those came on the back of a fourth inning Ardmore home run.

Elkmont chipped away at the Tiger lead throughout the game and never gave up.  Scoring two runs in the sixth inning, the Red Devils pulled ahead 8 - 7.  Skyler Gant came in to close the game out in the seventh inning in three batters.  Final score.  8 - 7.   Goal achieved......very satisfied seniors

ELKMONT JV WINS AT HOME - DIAMOND DEVIL SPEAKS

Monday night following the Varsity win, the Elkmont JV took the field and the win against the Ardmore Tigers.

Top of one, Adam McMahan took the mound and shut the tigers down with no hits, walks, or runs.  Elkmont came to bat and started off right with a triple from Nolan Ryan.  McMahan would get on baseon an error from Ardmore shortstop.  Michael Lee Johnson was hit by the pitcher and so the bases were loaded.  Hunter Brazeal hit a 2 RBI single and would steal second then third to be in scoring position.  Jordan Brooks had a sacrifice fly to score Brazeal.  At the end of one, the score was 3 - 0, Elkmont.

Top of second, Ardmore would have two players on base due to Elkmont infield errors followed by a 2 RBI.  However, McMahan would settle in on the mound and finish the inning with consecutive strike outs.  Bottom of two, Jarod Smallwood was hit to get on base.  Joshua Carter followed with a RBI single.  McMahan got on with a single followed by a RBI by Johnson who would eventually steal home bringing the score to 6-2, Elkmont.

Third inning, neither team would score.

Top of four,  McMahan walked two and Ardmore would score those two on errors by Elkmont.  With the score 6-4, Elkmont came to bat. Smallwood hit a single followed by a double from Carter.  Ryan had a RBI single.

Top of five, Elkmont defense played to get the win allowing no score by Ardmore.

The final score was Elkmont 7, Ardmore 4.

McMahan pitched the entire game and is credited with the win.

Elkmont JV will play tonight at West following the Varsity game.

MIDDLE SCHOOL DE-RATTLES RATTLERS - BASEBALL TAZ

The Middle Devils hosted the Tanner Rattlers today and came away with a 13 - 3 win. Jordan Nelson worked on the mound and rang up 8Ks that Taz counted.... Taz got a little chatty today and fell down on the reporting duties. Tanner went up 1 - 0 after the first inning but we put seven on the board.

In the second inning, Eli Hobbs and Bryce Tyler were scored on a solid hit by Connor Norman. Later, Norman was driven in by Brady Garris. Tyler scored again on a passed ball;  Josh Johnson scored with an RBI by Nelson and then Nelson and Aron Moss were driven in by Ethan Wilson who then scored on a passed ball and before you knew it, we were up 7 - 2.

Later, Jonathan Craig scored on a passed ball and Austin Berry was driven in by Johnson. Tyler scored on a hit by Moss and Hobbs scored on a hit by Johnson after being advanced by Tyler.

The final was 13 - 3 and again Taz must admit Taz was more of a fan today and less of a reporter and if Taz left
someone out it was purely unintentional. .....Taz Out!!!!!!

VARSITY GAME TIME CHANGE

MIDDLE DEVILS CONTINUE TO ROLL - BASEBALL TAZ

The Middle Devils hosted the Trojans from Athens Bible School on Good Friday afternoon and came away with two earned wins.

Eli Hobbs went four strong innings in the first game picking up three Ks (strikeouts) and Peyton McCown finished up the fifth inning.

First Inning:
Josh Johnson and Aron Moss each scored a run  on passed balls. Ethan Wilson and Taylor Thomas were brought home by Hobbs to make it 4 - 0.

Second Inning:
Moss, Wilson and Thomas scored on a 3 RBI hit by Jordan Nelson who then crossed home plate himself on a hit by Travis Riggs.  Jackson Cook was brought home by Moss and Hobbs scored on a hit by Wilson to make it 10 - 0.

Third Inning:
We picked up one in the third when Norman who was the courtesy runner for Bryce Tyler scored on a walk by Johnson to make it 11- 0.

Fourth Inning:
The Red Devils picked up two more in the fourth as Wilson was advanced by Tyler and then driven home by Nelson who was in turn brought home by Hobbs to make it 13 - 0.  Final score was a 13 - 6 win for the Devils.

Second game was a bit more of a struggle but the Middle Devils hung in there and got the second win of the day 7 - 6. Wilson opened on the mound and went 1 and 1/3 innings with
2Ks before giving way to Thomas who went the rest of the way and had 6Ks.

First Inning:
We opened the scoring in the first when Hobbs had a triple and then scored on a passed ball. Nelson was driven in by Wilson. Moss who was the courtesy runner for Wilson was advanced by Brady Garris and brought home by McCown.  Johnson who was the courtesy runner for Garris scored on a hit by Jonathan Craig to make it 4 - 0

Second Inning:
The Trojans fought back and scored 5 in the 2nd, but Connor Norman scored on a hit by Nelson to make it 5 - 5.

Score stayed 5 - 5  thru three innings in a defensive battle.
Athens Bible School picked up one in the fourth to go up 6 - 5 and we did not answer. Score was still 6 - 5  in the bottom of fifth and we needed two runs to win.  Elkmont answered the call and Johnson scored on a hit by Moss to tie it up 6 - 6 and later in the inning, Tyler Watts scored on a hit by Norman to put us up 7 - 6.

I think that makes the Devils 13 and 9 headed into the last week of the season........Taz Out!!!!

VARSITY/JV TANNER GAMES CANCELLED - Updated

Just heard that today's games at Elkmont have been cancelled; wanted to pass that info to you.  The middle school team is still playing a double header at West Limestone.  Hill Spirit looked at radar and the water vapor maps and it looks like the rain is going North and South but there is a line that has just moved across the Mississippi River into northern Mississippi that could be trouble for later this afternoon.  If the Hill Spirit hears anything, it will be posted here first.  Good luck Middle Devils.

RED DEVILS DROP FIRST GAME IN WEST MORGAN SERIES

The Elkmont Varsity Red Devils' series against the Area 15 leader, the West Morgan Rebels, started today at the Hilltop.  Unless the Danville Hawks were able to upset the Clements Colts, Elkmont needed to split with the Rebels to secure a playoff spot.  The Red Devils had nine hits including a home run by Michael Haney to score ten runs.  However, the West Morgan Rebels were able to take advantage of errors, hit batters, walks and eleven hits to turn a solid offensive performance into a win, 15 - 10.  It looked like Elkmont would be going to West Morgan tomorrow with their backs against the wall as they tried to get that prized win to send them to the playoffs.  Sometimes, the baseball fates smile and they did today as Danville upset Clements 3 -1, giving the Red Devils something special -  sharing the football and men's basketball teams success by getting to the playoffs.
Area 15 Standing:
West Morgan    5 - 0
