It is looking like it may stay cold
for the most part at least to February 15. This is why softball and
baseball should not be played in February. The Hill Spirit doesn't miss turning into an icicle watching those baseball games.
Brandi Bentley, one of our Elkmont varsity softball players,
has had a very busy summer playing softball and improving her game.
She has played with the North Alabama Blazers and the Huntsville Sparks
16 and under travel teams. The Huntsville Sparks played in York,
Pennsylvania over the weekend. Brandi left yesterday morning for
Pennsylvania and after 12 hours they finally made it. The Sparks
traveled to Pennsylvania to compete with some top level teams and an
opportunity to gain a spot in the 16U nationals next year in Los
Angeles, California. It's was a great experience for one of the youngest
teams in the tournament. They finished in the top 6 out of 30 teams at
nationals with a 7 - 2 record. Huntsville played well and will only get better.
The Hill Spirit has been keeping up with Brandi and her adventures in Pennsylvania;
August
1: Won the first game against Ohio ice 8-5 in 2 extra innings and
second game we won 8-0 against Pittsburg power. I put 3 runs on the
board with a homerun in the great game. And made a diving catch over the
fence in left field to keep a ball from going over. Pretty good day for
us at the field!
I
don't know what's more exciting; hitting a homerun in the first game or
robbing a homerun with a catching dive in the second game. I'd say left
field comes pretty natural to me Great day at the field for the
Huntsville Sparks! Lets keep it rolling!
This
evening I was able to visit the Battle of Gettysburg! It was probably
the greatest experience I've ever had! I love it! I've realized how
much I appreciate our history!
July 31: We got to pet alpacas today! Quite an experience!
July 30: I'm
so excited/blessed to be traveling to Pennsylvania to play and qualify
for 16u nationals! I just know they'll love my Elkmont accent.
The Sparx will be playing in the world series in Gulf Shores. Wish them much success as well as a good time at the beach.
