2002 SPARKS TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS

The Sparks softball team has had a terrific season this year. The Sparks organization is forming a second team for girls born in 2002 for the fall season.  Tryouts will be held during the week of July 26- August 2. Saturday, July 26, will be Round 1 for all potential athletes. Tuesday, July 29, will be for potential pitchers and catchers. Saturday, August 2, will be Round 2 for all potential athletes. Private tryouts will be available, upon request, the remaining days of the week. Times and locations will be announced by July 16.

LAYNE'S GREAT ADVENTURE - PART 3

We lost our first game this morning to Central Florida 4-2. We then dropped into the losers bracket and beat Odessa, 2-0, in 8 innings. We also beat Southern Union, 10-3.  

We play again Saturday against Central Florida at 11 am against and the winner of the game will advance to the championship against Angelina at
1:00 and if necessary game at 3:00. There are only three teams left. All games will be broadcasted.

*games times have been changed to central time central time if you want to watch the broadcasts.

One of our past Elkmont Lady Devils softball standouts, class of 2012,  is playing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJAA) DI softball championship tournament.  The tournament is located in St. George, Utah and will be played May 14 - 17.

LAYNE'S GREAT ADVENTURE - PART TWO

The Chattanooga State Lady Tigers won their second  game today vs North Central Texas 11-4.  They play Friday against Central Florida at 2:30 (3:30 our time) and then again if the Lady Tigers win at 7:00 pm (8 pm our time).   The 2:30 game broadcast link: Central Florida vs  Lady Tigers

One of our past Elkmont Lady Devils softball standouts, class of 2012,  is playing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJAA) DI softball championship tournament.  The tournament is located in St. George, Utah and will be played May 14 - 17.  Layne Smith signed with the Chattanooga State Lady Tigers and is a sophomore this year.  She has had a great season and is looking forward to a successful tournament.

Layne's Great Adventure:
We traveled on Monday. Six of us flew for the first time. We flew from Nashville to Vegas then drove here to St. George. 


Tuesday, we  practiced and went to a banquet. 

Today, we won today against Darton state 10-1 in 6 innings. We play again tomorrow at 5:00 against North Central Texas

Diamond Daisies Win Again

Diamond Daisies vs Ardmore1  @ 5:30 @ Elkmont, Field 1  Another awesome win for the Diamond Daisies tonight with a score of 17-3. Our Daisies continue hitting the ball great and their fielding is just as good. Another game in the morning, can't wait to see some more great team work.

DIAMOND DAISIES PUSHING THRU LEAGUE

The Diamond Daisies are one of Elkmont's youth softball teams.  They are playing in the county league 8 and under division.  The Daisies have gotten off to a great start with a record of 8 - 1.  Best of luck for the rest of your season.

AREA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT STARTS TOMORROW

The Elkmont Lady Devils have finished their regular season and are ready to begin the Area 15 Softball Tournament.  Games start tomorrow - best of luck to our softball team.

LADY DEVILS SOFTBALL RESULTS - APRIL 14 - 19


West Morgan 7, Elkmont 0 
West Morgan softball captured the Class 3A, Area 15 championship Friday afternoon by blanking Elkmont 7-0.
 

Lexington 4, Elkmont 2: Brandi Bentley and Rebekah Inman each singled and scored a run for Elkmont.

Elkmont 12, Giles County (TN) 0: 
 Brandi Bentley finished with two hits and three RBIs for Elkmont. Autumn Davis picked up the win as she struck out four batters in four innings. Davis also singled at the plate.

YOUTH SOFTBALL CAMP - JUNE 2-6

June 2-6, 2014, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Youth Softball Camp will be held at the Athens Sportsplex on Hwy 31 for girls age 7-12.
The 2014 Triple Play Softball Camp will help each participant grow in their skills and understanding of the game of fastpitch softball. Some of the areas of fundamentals to be covered during the camp include:
  • Throwing
  • Hitting
  • Fielding
  • Base Running
  • Team Offense
  • Team Defense
**All detailed information will be available in the 2014 Triple Play Camp brochures that will be available in May, 2014.**

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPLITS WITH TANNER

April 13:
The Elkmont Middle School Red Devils jumped out to an early lead and captured a 13-6 victory over the Tanner Rattlers, at the Hilltop.  The game was decided quickly as the Red Devils exerted its will early with 11 runs in the first three innings.
 

An RBI single by Phillip Norman, a two-run single by Matt Sims, a walk by Jordan Fielding, a two-run single by Jim Dawson, and a two-run double by Phillip during the first inning fueled the Elkmont offense, scoring nine runs. 

The rest of the game saw each attempted Tanner rally matched by an answering Elkmont team.

The Red Devils survived a Tanner surge and put up two runs of its own in the fourth inning, scoring on an RBI triple by Login Griffin and an RBI single by Hunter Pitman.

Game Stats:
*Phillip Norman allowed six runs over five innings, and was credited with the victory. He struck out 10 batters, walked five and gave up five hits.  
*Jim Dawson, Phillip Norman and Login Griffin combined for five hits and six RBIs.

O Green couldn't get it done on the mound for Tanner, taking the loss. He allowed 13 runs in four innings, walked 11 and struck out seven.

TANNER WINS 5 - 3 IN LAST GAME 
Hunter Pitman did all he could to give Elkmont Middle School a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Tanner, as Elkmont Middle School lost 5-3 in five innings at home on Saturday.

The Tanner Rattlers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third.  Green got things going  with a single. A stolen base then moved from first to second. J. Revaz singled, plating Green.

After a quick strike from the Rattlers, Elkmont responded with one run in the third; scored on an RBI single by Hunter.

The lead stayed with Tanner after the fourth, when it scored two runs on an error and an RBI single by G. Mann.
 

In the fourth, Elkmont Middle School scored on an RBI single by Hunter, scoring Jordan Fielding.
After posting one run in the fourth, the Red Devils scored another in the fifth.

Hunter Pitman was solid at the plate for the Red Devils. He went 2-3 and drove in one. He singled in the third and fourth innings.

B. Rios recorded the win for Tanner. He allowed three runs over four innings. He struck out seven, walked seven and surrendered three hits.

Hunter took the loss for Elkmont. He pitched five innings, walked four, struck out seven, and allowed five runs.
