ELKMONT LOSES SERIES IN THREE GAMES

The Elkmont Red Devils completed its Area 15 series with the East Lawrence Eagles, March 24.  On Monday, the Red Devils lost the first game, 6-1 in extra innings.  They traveled to East Lawrence to finish the best of three game series to determine area rankings.


First Game:
Elkmont 5, East Lawrence 4: 
Jared Bailey struck out five as Elkmont topped East Lawrence for a Class 4A, Area 15 win.

Hunter Brazeal led Elkmont with three hits and an RBI, while Jordan Nelson and Bailey each had two hits and an RBI. Aron Moss added a hit and an RBI for the Red Devils. Bailey got the pitching win, holding East Lawrence to five hits in the complete game. He had 19 first pitch strikes and 5 strikeouts.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SILVER CHAMPIONS


Our middle school Lady Devils recently played in the Ardmore Middle School Tiger Classic. Thirteen teams from Tennessee, north Alabama and Kentucky participated. The local teams were Elkmont, Ardmore and East Limestone.  The tournament consisted of pool play and then the teams were seeded into two brackets, Gold and Silver.

TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS:

In pool play Elkmont MS tied 5-5 with Moore County from Tennessee and lost 5-0 against the gold bracket champion, Meridianville. 

In tournament play, the Lady Devils won against Moore Co. 5-2 and moved to the championship game of the Silver Bracket Championship  to play East Limestone.

In the Championship game. Elkmont jumped out with a 2-0 lead against East and then fell behind 7-2.  With good strong hitting and solid defense, they edged past the Lady Indians, 11-10.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPLITS WITH EAST INDIANS

The Elkmont Middle School Red Devils split with East Limestone.  The Indians won the first game, 11-3.  The Red Devils regrouped and rolled over East in the second game.Andrew Martin threw a no hitter in the second game for the win, 9-2.

ELKMONT DROPPED FIRST GAME OF EAST LAWRENCE SERIES

It was great afternoon for baseball at the Hilltop yesterday. In a pitching duel, each inning saw the score stay the same, 1-1.  After the normal seven innings, the score was still knotted at 1-1.  However, East Lawrence High rallied past Elkmont 6-1 in the ninth inning Monday for a Class 4A, Area 15 baseball win.

Brett Rittenberry struck out 17 for the win, holding Elkmont to two hits in the complete game.  Taylor Thomas struck out five while holding East Lawrence to four hits in eight innings. Hunter Pitman led Elkmont with a hit and an RBI, and Aron Moss added a hit.

Taylor Thomas: 8 innings; 5 strikeouts; 18 first pitch strikes
Hunter Brazeal: 1 inning, 1 strikeout; 2 first pitch strikes

The Red Devils will be traveling to East Lawrence today for a possible double header to determine who takes the Area 15 series.  First pitch is at 4:30 pm.

It was a long night for the Elkmont baseball fans, but well worth it.  It was all Elkmont as the Red Devils swept the hill top doubleheader vs Tanner, March 19.

Tanner falls 16-5 at the hands of Red Devils. Eli Hobbs had a home run, 3 RBIs.  Joshua Carter had 3 RBIs; Hunter Brazeal had 4 hits and 4 RBIs. Bryce Tyler 3 hits and Hunter Pitman, 2 hits and a walk.

Elkmont Varsity Baseball jumps on Tanner early and coasts to 17-0 win.
Eli Hobbs had a grand slam to spark the Red Devils. Hobbs also singled in a fifth RBI. Bryce Tyler had three hits. Travis Riggs, Braden Miller, Taylor Thomas and Jackson Cook each had two hits.
