DECATUR DAILY 2013 ALL AREA BASEBALL TEAM

The Decatur Daily has released its all area 2013 baseball team.  Elkmont has two players that made the list.  Congrads on great individual seasons.

Class 1A-3A all-area baseball team

Player of the year: Jacob Hagewood, Athens Bible, Sr.: Hagewood was a model of consistency for Athens Bible. The star catcher hit .472 with a .623 on-base percentage. He also had 31 RBIs, three homers and six triples while striking out six times on the season. Hagewood was also solid behind the plate.
Coach of the year: Bill Murrell, Athens Bible: The 40-year veteran coach led Athens Bible to one of the area’s best seasons. The Trojans finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, but lost in the second round to third-ranked Shoals Christian. Athens Bible finished 29-4 and topped Shoals Christian, the eventual state runner-up, for the Class 1A, Area 16 title.

Rest of the team

P: Sam Bobo, Athens Bible, Sr.: Was one of the top pitchers on Athens Bible’s staff. He finished with a 5-1 record and 2.39 ERA. Bobo will continue his baseball career at Harding.
P: Hayden Phillips, Athens Bible, Sr: Led Athens Bible on the mound with a 6-2 record and 1.25 ERA.
P: Blake Cundiff, Athens Bible, Sr.: Finished with a 4-0 record with an .99 ERA and one save. Cundiff was also one of the Trojans’ leading hitters with a .440 batting average, three homers and 46 RBIs.
C: Kyle Lasch, Decatur Heritage, Fr.: Led Decatur Heritage at the plate with a .404 batting average and 20 RBIs.
INF: Justin Morgan, Danville, Sr.: Led Danville at the plate with a .383 batting average.
INF: Trey Mathis, West Morgan, Sr.: The UAH signee finished his career strong, hitting .472 with six home runs.
INF: Cole White, Clements, Jr.: White was among Clements’ leaders at the plate with a .370 batting average and 19 RBIs.
INF: Michael Walker, Hatton, Sr.: Was among Hatton’s leading hitters with a .378 batting average with 30 RBIs and two home runs.
OF: Blake New, West Morgan, Sr.: Was second in the Rebels’ lineup in batting average at .372. He also had 24 RBIs and four homers.
OF: Zach Armstrong, Decatur Heritage, Sr.: Was among Decatur Heritage’s leading hitters with a .380 batting average.
OF: Ty Terry, Hatton, Sr.: Hit .348 with 36 RBIs and seven homers to lead Hatton offensively.
DH: Douglas Fields, Athens Bible, Sr.: Led the Trojans in batting average at .505. He also touted a .606 on-base percentage with 20 stolen bases.
UT: Seth Hamilton, Clements, Jr.: Hamilton led Clements at the plate with a .427 batting average, 27 RBIs, 16 doubles and three triples.
UT: Tyler Fields, Danville, Sr.: Was among Danville’s leading hitters and pitchers. He finished with a .323 batting average and had a 5-3 record on the mound.
