The Red Devils beat ABS 8-3 last night. Ekmont will be playing in the finals but will have to beat Ardmore twice since the Tigers are undefeated in tournament play.  This will test the young Devils' pitching depth.  The other eight players on the field are going to need to put together a solid defense to beat Ardmore.  The games will start at 4:30 pm.

MIDDLE SCHOOL RED DEVIL EXCITEMENT

HELICOPTER LANDS IN ELKMONT BASEBALL FIELD

PhotoThe Middle School
baseball team was
scheduled to go to
Athens Bible School
yesterday for a
double header.

Games were moved
to Elkmont at the last
minute because the ABS
field was too wet from
the inches of rain we
were blessed with on
Monday.

The Red Devils roared out the gate and  won
16 to 8 in the first game of the double header.

The second game was also l
ooking really good
for another win to be added to the middle school
record.  We were winning 10 to 3 in
the bottom of 4th when all the excitement happened.
An ump got hit by a foul ball. He started having
seizures and 911 was called and med flight landed
in center field.

(He chose go to hospital via ambulance though).
Needless to say game was called.

Elkmont will be traveling to Riverside for another
double header tomorrow, March 21.
Hopefully, no helicopters.

MIDDLE DEVILS CONTINUE TO ROLL - BASEBALL TAZ

The Middle Devils hosted the Trojans from Athens Bible School on Good Friday afternoon and came away with two earned wins.

Eli Hobbs went four strong innings in the first game picking up three Ks (strikeouts) and Peyton McCown finished up the fifth inning.

First Inning:
Josh Johnson and Aron Moss each scored a run  on passed balls. Ethan Wilson and Taylor Thomas were brought home by Hobbs to make it 4 - 0.

Second Inning:
Moss, Wilson and Thomas scored on a 3 RBI hit by Jordan Nelson who then crossed home plate himself on a hit by Travis Riggs.  Jackson Cook was brought home by Moss and Hobbs scored on a hit by Wilson to make it 10 - 0.

Third Inning:
We picked up one in the third when Norman who was the courtesy runner for Bryce Tyler scored on a walk by Johnson to make it 11- 0.

Fourth Inning:
The Red Devils picked up two more in the fourth as Wilson was advanced by Tyler and then driven home by Nelson who was in turn brought home by Hobbs to make it 13 - 0.  Final score was a 13 - 6 win for the Devils.

Second game was a bit more of a struggle but the Middle Devils hung in there and got the second win of the day 7 - 6. Wilson opened on the mound and went 1 and 1/3 innings with
2Ks before giving way to Thomas who went the rest of the way and had 6Ks.

First Inning:
We opened the scoring in the first when Hobbs had a triple and then scored on a passed ball. Nelson was driven in by Wilson. Moss who was the courtesy runner for Wilson was advanced by Brady Garris and brought home by McCown.  Johnson who was the courtesy runner for Garris scored on a hit by Jonathan Craig to make it 4 - 0

Second Inning:
The Trojans fought back and scored 5 in the 2nd, but Connor Norman scored on a hit by Nelson to make it 5 - 5.

Score stayed 5 - 5  thru three innings in a defensive battle.
Athens Bible School picked up one in the fourth to go up 6 - 5 and we did not answer. Score was still 6 - 5  in the bottom of fifth and we needed two runs to win.  Elkmont answered the call and Johnson scored on a hit by Moss to tie it up 6 - 6 and later in the inning, Tyler Watts scored on a hit by Norman to put us up 7 - 6.

I think that makes the Devils 13 and 9 headed into the last week of the season........Taz Out!!!!

NEWS COURIER ELKMONT/ABS ARTICLE

The News Courier ran a nice article today with a big picture of Jared Bailey about the varsity Red Devil vs ABS Trojans  If you are a newpaper article clipper or would like to read about the game, you might be interested in picking up a copy.

Coach Holt quote: " They beat us in the tournament, so it's good to get a win in the regular season.  We had six guys come in from basketball and start late.  We haven't had a good start but yesterday was a good game for us.  Some of the things we have working on came through for us."

JV TEAM STRUGGLES AGAINST ABS

The JV played the Athens Bible School Trojans in Athens, March 13.  The Red Devils weren't able to score enough to overcome some crucial mistakes and runners left on base; taking their fourth loss, 3 -1 .

The starting pitcher, Hunter Brazeal faced three batters with three outs in the top of the first inning.  As Elkmont came in to bat, they looked to take an early lead.  Nolan Ryan started off with a single. Michael Lee Johnson, batting third, also had a single.  With one out and runners on second and third, the next two batters made outs leaving the runners on and failed to score.

In the top of the second, Brazeal allowed two hits and one run.  ABS took the lead 1-0.  Bottom of second inning, with two outs, Eli Vining hit a single but again Elkmont could not get the runner home as the next batter would strike out.

Brazeal took the mound again in the third and allowed one hit but no runs.  In the bottom of the third, Elkmont started out with Cody Haggermaker taking a walk. With one out, Nolan Ryan would advance the runner with a single. Adam McMahan followed with a single advancing both runners.  With two outs, Haggermaker stole home, scoring the Red Devils' first run  The next batter hit the ball but was thrown out at first and left two potential runs on base.

With the score tied 1-1 going to the fourth, the coaches would bring Hunter Taylor to the mound where he would only allow two walks.  However, with two outs and runners on, an error allowed one run to score and shortly later a second error with a runner on third saw another Trojan cross home base adding another run.  Elkmont came to bat needing two runs.  However, the Red Devils were only able to get C. Taylor on base with a walk and Hunter Taylor with a single but no score.

Going to the top of fifth inning, ABS led 3-1 and Taylor would take the mound this time only allowing one walk.  In the bottom of five as Elkmont came to bat, Jarod Smallwood hit a double; Haggermaker, hit a double.  Smallwood made the turn at third but stumbled and the Trojans threw him out at home.  The next two batters would make outs leaving Haggermaker stranded on second and ending the game, 3 -1.

Elkmont is now 4-4 for the season.
The next game is scheduled for Friday @ Ardmore following the varsity game.

ABS BEAT VARSITY RED DEVILS

Elkmont played the perennial baseball 1A powerhouse of Athens Bible School Trojans, March 6.

The Red Devils took the lead in the first inning 1 - 0.  The Trojans followed up in the second inning, scoring 3 runs to go up 3 - 1 due to infield errors and good hitting.    ABS pitching kept Elkmont at bay as they increased their lead to 8 - 1 before the Devils were able to score in the fourth making it, 10 - 2.  Tyler Thomas came in to relieve Ben Ferguson in the middle of the fourth.  The fifth inning looking promising as Elkmont loaded the bases but hit into a double play that ended the chance to score several runs.  The Trojans were quickly retired in the top of the sixth inning and the Red Devils' bats came to life, scoring 3 runs.  With the score 10 - 5 going into the seventh, ABS added another run to finish the night with 11 runs.  Again Elkmont attempted to close the score margin, runners were able to get on base but weren't able to get more than one run before the last out.  Final score:  11 - 6

Starting pitcher: Ben Ferguson (loss)
Relief pitcher:   Tyler Thomas
Ben Ferguson (third base) and Rhett Bailey (shortstop) turned in solid infield performances with some excellent plays with throws to first that showcased their rocket arms.
Cole Glass led Elkmont with a double, a single and a pair of RBIs.
Skyler Gant added a double while Ferguson singled twice.
