JV TEAM STRUGGLES AGAINST ABS

The JV played the Athens Bible School Trojans in Athens, March 13.  The Red Devils weren't able to score enough to overcome some crucial mistakes and runners left on base; taking their fourth loss, 3 -1 .

The starting pitcher, Hunter Brazeal faced three batters with three outs in the top of the first inning.  As Elkmont came in to bat, they looked to take an early lead.  Nolan Ryan started off with a single. Michael Lee Johnson, batting third, also had a single.  With one out and runners on second and third, the next two batters made outs leaving the runners on and failed to score.

In the top of the second, Brazeal allowed two hits and one run.  ABS took the lead 1-0.  Bottom of second inning, with two outs, Eli Vining hit a single but again Elkmont could not get the runner home as the next batter would strike out.

Brazeal took the mound again in the third and allowed one hit but no runs.  In the bottom of the third, Elkmont started out with Cody Haggermaker taking a walk. With one out, Nolan Ryan would advance the runner with a single. Adam McMahan followed with a single advancing both runners.  With two outs, Haggermaker stole home, scoring the Red Devils' first run  The next batter hit the ball but was thrown out at first and left two potential runs on base.

With the score tied 1-1 going to the fourth, the coaches would bring Hunter Taylor to the mound where he would only allow two walks.  However, with two outs and runners on, an error allowed one run to score and shortly later a second error with a runner on third saw another Trojan cross home base adding another run.  Elkmont came to bat needing two runs.  However, the Red Devils were only able to get C. Taylor on base with a walk and Hunter Taylor with a single but no score.

Going to the top of fifth inning, ABS led 3-1 and Taylor would take the mound this time only allowing one walk.  In the bottom of five as Elkmont came to bat, Jarod Smallwood hit a double; Haggermaker, hit a double.  Smallwood made the turn at third but stumbled and the Trojans threw him out at home.  The next two batters would make outs leaving Haggermaker stranded on second and ending the game, 3 -1.

Elkmont is now 4-4 for the season.
The next game is scheduled for Friday @ Ardmore following the varsity game.
