MIDDLE SCHOOL SPLITS FIRST HOME GAMES - BASEBALL TAZ

The Elkmont Middle School Devils had their first home games of the season and came away with a loss and a win against the Wildcats from West Limestone.

Aron Moss opened the first game on the mound for the Middle Devils and had a chance to get out of the inning but that error bug bit us again and we were down
0 - 4 after the 1st. The second inning didn't fare much better and after the 2nd we were down, 0 - 9. Moss did pick up a K (strike out). Tyler Watts took the pitcher's mound in the 3rd and managed to get out of the inning still down, 0 - 9. The Wildcats put four more runs on the board in the fourth to go up 13 but the home team finally scored in the bottom of the inning with runs by Eli Hobbs, Austin Berry and Taylor Thomas.  Elkmont got 10 runs behind and the game was called (run rule) at the end of the fourth inning, final score
13 - 3, West Limestone.  Aron Moss was tagged with the loss for the Red Devils.

The second game looked a lot better and Elkmont came away with a tough 3 - 2 win.  Jordan Nelson turned in another fine effort on the mound picking up six Ks in this win for the Middle Devils. After a fielder's choice, Ethan Wilson was able to score Nelson with a little help from a fielding and throwing error. The Elkmont took a 1-0 lead and maintained it thru two innings.

With Hobbs and Nelson on second and third, Wilson drove a ball into right center that appeared to be good for a hit but the Wildcat outfielder made a great stab and caught our runners in no man's land. The catch made it impossible for them to tag up and score runs.   Fortunately, luck was again on our side and two passed balls later, both Hobbs and Nelson were able to cross home base.  Going into the fourth inning, the score was 3 - 0.

Nelson dug in again and West Limestone were only able to score one run making it, 3 - 1. The Middle Devils were unable to add any points to the board in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, the Wildcats were able to put one more run on the board but it was not enough and the Devils prevailed, 3-2.

TAZ'S THOUGHTS:
All in all it was a decent outing for Elkmont and you can see them getting better and gaining confidence in each other. A note from Taz, it takes time to prepare for a game, players have to focus on the task at hand and Coach Garris has a time for players to arrive. Since the Middle Devils can not drive yet, please do all you can to have them arriving on time. And guys, tell your driver thank you (or give them a knuckle tap) to let them know how much you appreciate it...... Taz out!!
