RED DEVILS SPLIT WITH WEST LIMESTONE WILDCATS

The Varsity Red Devils played a double header at West Limestone, March 12.  Ben Ferguson pitched a complete game and picked up the win, 8 - 4, in the first of two games.  Elkmont dropped the second game, 4 - 14, to the Wildcats.

Elkmont started out slow and couldn't score in the first inning.  Ben Ferguson took the mound.  Between two walks and three errors, the Wildcats scored three runs before Ferguson shut the door with a strike out in the first inning.

The Red Devils started out with a bang in the second inning as Skyler Gant hit a single and was moved around to third on a Daniel Logan second base hit.  It looked like Elkmont would leave runners on base as the next two batters struck out before Michael Johnson's single scored Gant and Logan.  The inning ended with another strike out but the Devils had already taken the lead 2 - 1.  West Limestone were quickly sent  back into the field as they could only manage a single between four batters.

Elkmont had batted it's way back to the top of the lineup to start the third inning.  Cole Glass walked and worked his way around as Ferguson hit a single and Jared Bailey got the RBI (run batted in) as he added another single. The next two batters flew out and the third struck out.  The Wildcats added a run to make the score 4 - 3 to end the inning.

The fourth inning saw both teams go scoreless.   The Red Devils were again at the top of their lineup to start the fifth.  Glass got on base on an error and turned the rockets on to score when Bailey hit a double.  Gant hit a single for an RBI as Jared added another run before the Wildcat pitcher got another strike out.   West Limestone had runners on but weren't able to score before Ferguson retired the side on a strike out.

With the score 5 - 4, the sixth inning was a goose egg for the Devils.  The Wildcats put two runners on sandwiched between two outs.  A long fly ball looked like it would hit the fence and score two runs but Glass made one of his "Cole" catches as he fell down five feet from the fence.  Cole, flat on his back, holds his glove up showing he had indeed caught the ball; getting the last out and stopping the West Limestone from taking the lead.

Elkmont held the lead, 5 - 4, going into the last inning.  Cole Glass was sent to first base when the pitcher hit him with a pitch.  Jared Bailey hit a single, getting his third RBI for the night, as Glass crossed home.  Gant and Logan got on base on a single and an error.  Bryant Wales hit a single, scoring both runners.  The Red Devils were  8 - 4 as the Wildcats had one last chance.  Ferguson slammed the door shut after four batters, pitching a complete game for the win with three Ks.

The second game of the double header was not a good example of baseball.  The Red Devils put 17 batters on through errors, walks in addition to the Wildcats eight hits.  Elkmont lost 4 - 14 in five innings.  Tyler Thomas took the loss.
