The Middle Devils played host to Decatur Heritage and Tanner today and came away with two nice wins. In the first game, we beat the Eagles from Decatur Heritage, 10 - 3. Jordan Nelson was back on the mound and rang up 9 Ks in going the
distance for the Red Devils. We got on the board in the first inning with Aron Moss walking, stealing a couple of bases then scoring on a passed ball. Nelson drove in Taylor Thomas and then scored himself on a passed ball to put us up 3 - 0.
Decatur managed to score two in the second but the home team had a big inning with Josh Johnson scoring on an RBI by Moss. Taylor had a big triple that brought home Brady Garris, Jackson Cook and Moss. Thomas scored on a passed ball, Nelson scored on an RBI by Johnson and Ethan Wilson came home on a throw down to second base to make it, 10 - 2 after two innings. The Eagles managed to score another run in the
third and that ended the scoring and we went on to win 10 - 3. Nelson ended the game with a sweet 1- 6 - 3 double play. Defense played ok behind Nelson's pitching and Garris did a good job behind the plate.
In the second game, we hung in there and got a tough win against the Rattlers from Tanner. We got out to a quick lead with Aron Moss being driven in by Eli Hobbs. Bryce Tyler advanced Ethan Wilson and Josh Johnson came on as a runner for Tyler. Jonathan Craig then drove in Wilson and Johnson. Craig was scored by Connor Norman. Peyton McCown scored on a walk by Moss. Norman and Tyler Watts were brought home by Jordan Nelson, then Moss by Hobbs to make it, 8 - 2 after one inning.
The score remained 8 - 2 until Tanner made it 8 - 4 after the third inning. Craig scored on a passed ball to make it 9 - 4 in the bottom of the fourth. Moss scored on a drive by Hobbs and then Hobbs scored on a big triple by Wilson to give us eleven runs. Hobbs worked on the mound the first three innings with 2Ks. Johnson then went 1 and 2/3 innings with 3Ks before Taylor Thomas came on to close out the game with a K. Tanner fought back hard in the fifth inning but we came away with an 11-10 Win. Offensive output was in bursts today but was productive during those bursts. Defense played good but is still capable of playing a
much cleaner game. All in all, today was good, I think we got a little better, brought home two big wins along the way, and then the rains came. Life is good. Taz out!!

POSSIBLE RAINOUT AT MARS HILL -UPDATED
UPDATE: The games have been cancelled for today. Middle School scheduled for tomorrow starting at 10 am are still on the books. Check back for status of those games tomorrow morning.
The Varsity Red Devils are scheduled to play at Mars Hill today. Looking at the radar, Hill Spirit thinks Mars Hill's field is going to get heavy rain in the next few hours. If Mars Hill has a field cover, it will not matter but if not, it looks like another rainout. Be sure to check back throughout the day on game status.

DECATUR HERITAGE TOO MUCH FOR MIDDLE DEVILS
Well, we went to Decatur Heritage today and we didn't come away with a win. Decatur Heritage put it on us, 17-4 after 4 1/2 innings. Ethan Wilson started on the mound and the good news is we were 0-0 after 1 inning. Bad news is it was a seven inning game. We did get two runs in the second inning with Austin Berry driving in Brady Garris and Peyton McCown bringing in Jackson Cook but the Eagles scored 5 runs to make it, 2 - 5. We put two more on the board in the third with Garris being hit by a pitch to bring in Aron Moss and Berry driving in Wilson. Wilson finished up his night on the mound with 3 Ks in 2 1/3 ( two innings and one out in the third)and was relieved by Moss who went 2/3 (two outs) to finish up the third inning and we were down 4 - 8. Moss was relieved in the fourth by Tyler Thomas who picked up 2 Ks and we were down 4 - 17. We could not close the gap in the top of the 5th and the game ended, 4 - 17.
ELKMONT VARSITY SWEEPS DANVILLE
The Elkmont Red Devils beat the Danville Hawks 9 - 8 in the second game of the Area series. The West Morgan Rebels took out the Clements Colts in two games as well in their series. If the Hill Spirit understands how the Area standings are calculated, the Area 15 falls out like this:
West Morgan 4 - 0
Elkmont 3 - 1
Clements 1 - 3
Danville 0 - 4
If Elkmont sweeps West Morgan, the Red Devils will win the area. If Elkmont wins one game, they will come in second.
If West Morgan wins both games against Elkmont and Clements wins both games against Danville, Clements will come in second place and the Red Devils will miss the state playoffs this year.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPLITS WITH ARDMORE - BASEBALL TAZ
BASEBALL TAZ REPORTING - MONDAY 26 AT BLAKE JONES FIELD
The Middle Devils were back in action tonight hosting a doubleheader against the Ardmore Tigers and we came away with a loss and a win.
Josh Johnson opened Game One on the mound and looked pretty good getting two quick outs before the bugaboo bit his defense and we gave up four to open the first inning. In the home half of the first, Austin Berry drove in Johnson and Bryce Tyler
brought home Ethan Wilson to make it 2 - 4 with one inning complete. The Tigers picked up three more gifts in the second to go up seven runs. Elkmont's Eli Hobbs drove in Connor Norman, who had been advanced by Johnson, to give us three run of our own. The third inning got out of hand and Ardmore had 14 runs but Norman drove in Tyler Watts and Brady Garris who was the courtesy runner for Bryce Tyler to make it 5 - 14 after three complete innings. Travid Riggs came in as the relief pitcher for the Red Devils to finish the fourth inning and the game ended 5-19. Johnson picked up a K (strikeout) and Bryce Tyler had a solid game as catcher behind the plate.
Game Two saw Elkmont pull together when they easily could have folded and quit for the night. Eli Hobbs opened on the mound and the defense played pretty solid behind him. The Tigers got two in the top of the first but we answered with a score by Hobbs who was brought home by Ethan Wilson to make it, 1 - 2. The score remained 1-2 thru three complete innings with Ardmore picking up two more in the top of the fourth but the Middle Devils had a big rally, surging back in the bottom of the 4th. Bryce Tyler advanced Connor Norman who was the courtesy runner for Travis Riggs and Taylor Thomas had a nice drive to score Norman. Jackson Cook then drove in Thomas and Brady Garris scored on a passed ball. Aron Moss added a big hit to score Josh Johnson and then crossed home plate himself on a passed ball to put us up 6 - 4 at the end of the fourth inning. Ardmore scored two to tie the score at 6 - 6; Taylor Thomas came on in as relief to get us out of the inning, 6 - 6. Wilson opened the bottom of the fifth with a single that was mishandled, allowing him to advance to second and then third on a passed ball. Riggs took care of the rest with a drive up the middle to score Wilson and the good guys won, 7 - 6.
Eli Hobbs picked up three Ks (strikeouts) and Taylor Thomas had one in relief. The Middle Devils will be in action tomorrow traveling to Decatur Heritage. Taz out!!!!!
